Lower School students and their families spent Saturday morning at the Lower School for the STEAMxEXPO. This event was created as a phenomenal way to engage the school community and spur enthusiasm for STEAMx among students and their families. Families were presented with a list of challenges and were asked to sign up for three that interested them.
Each participant was given a STEAMx passport upon arrival. They visited experiment stations and followed the instructions, building, problem-solving, and exploring various challenges. Two examples of activities were Scribble Bot, an intermediate project, and Balloon Rocket, a beginner’s project. A favorite was the CD Hovercraft! After completing an experiment, participants were excited to have their passports stamped.
“It’s a beautiful thing to see parents working with their children on these science experiments, problem-solving and learning together,” said John Arango, STEAMx Director.
As budding engineers, students suggested tweaks to the experiments. “Perhaps the wheels would move more easily on a smooth surface,” one student proposed, “or if this coil were less tightly wound, the magnetic pull it experiences would be more noticeable.”
